Ajay Glass Co. is a family‑owned exterior cladding contractor, founded in 1958, in the Stathopoulos family since George Stathopoulos bought into it in 1968, and run today by the second generation with the third already in the building — engineering, fabricating and installing facades from one 155,000 sq ft plant in Farmington, New York.
We are glaziers first. The company started in 1958 setting glass, and everything added since — aluminum fabrication, metal wall panels, a unitized curtain wall line, an in‑house engineering office — was added so that the wall we hand over is one we controlled from the first calculation to the last bead of sealant.
That is the whole idea behind Ajay: one company carries the facade. Our own engineers run the structural and thermal models and seal the calculations. Our own shop machines, assembles and glazes the units. Our own signatory glaziers and ironworkers set them. When something needs an answer on a Tuesday afternoon, the person who can answer it is down the hall, not on a subcontractor's voicemail.
We work across New York and the Northeast as a single‑source envelope subcontractor, and we fabricate unitized curtain wall for glazing contractors anywhere in the country who want the units built here and installed by their own crews.
George Stathopoulos came to the United States from northern Greece in 1961, at 26, from a family known there for the quality of its construction work. He set out to be a glazier, joined Ajay Glass on the tools in 1964, and rose to lead foreman and then superintendent. In 1968 the company was about to close. George went to one of the partners with a proposal: he would take on half the debt and keep the shop running with him. He did, grew the contract glazing side until it carried the business, and by 1978 owned the company outright — later bringing in a partner, Nick Marcucci, who helped expand the contracting business from 1982 until his retirement in 2000. Everything on this site stands on that decision.

Three years after arriving from Greece, George Stathopoulos goes to work for Ajay as a glazier, and works up to lead foreman and superintendent.
With the company about to close, George takes on half its debt as a partner and keeps it running. Contract glazing becomes the engine of the business; by 1978 he owns it outright.
By 1990 George's three sons — Jim, Dean and Steve Stathopoulos — have all come into the business. The second generation runs the company together today.
Ajay builds its own engineering office — sealed structural calculations, thermal modeling and shop drawings produced by staff, not consultants.
Offices, engineering, unitized fabrication and shipping consolidate into a single 155,000 sq ft facility on Collett Road, where the company operates today.
The third generation of the family is in the business now, learning the trade the same way the second did — and the transition to them is being set up deliberately, not left to chance.
When something goes wrong on a job, the owner hears it from us first — with what happened and what we are doing about it. Problems get smaller when you pick up the phone, and bigger when you wait for it to ring.
Every wall is modeled and calculated by our own engineers before the shop cuts metal. The detail that gets approved is the detail that gets built, because the same people are responsible for both.
Codes change, systems change, software changes. We train apprentices in‑house, keep our people in the industry's technical committees, and treat every unusual detail as a reason to get better rather than a reason to say no.
In the glazing trade his whole life and in the business full time by 1990. A licensed professional engineer, Jim leads the company and its in‑house engineering, and still reviews the calculations on the walls Ajay builds.
President and COO, Steve runs the day‑to‑day operation of the company — the part of the business that turns an awarded contract into a finished wall.
One of George's three sons, in the business since the company's contract-glazing years and an owner alongside his brothers. As Executive Vice President, Dean is part of the team that has run Ajay for more than three decades.
Brian leads the financial side of the company — banking, bonding, cost and cash across a book of long‑duration projects — and is an integral part of the leadership team with the three brothers.
The next generation of the family is already working in the business, and the hand‑off to them is being planned deliberately — the same way the first two were. Customers who have worked with Ajay for decades will keep working with a Stathopoulos.
We open the Farmington plant to students through the Builders Exchange of Rochester and Hillside's work‑scholarship program, and work the glazing booth at Roc With Your Hands with the National Glass Association and IUPAT District Council 4 — because the next generation of glaziers has to come from somewhere.
